QUESTIONS

Metabolism is indispensable for the bioenergetics that underlie all of biology. Additionally, many metabolic pathways can regulate gene expression and cell signaling.

We study the products of metabolic pathways (metabolites)

to understand how "metabolism talks to the cell."

Our findings can inform on how diet or metabolic approaches may help to control disease, even those with genetic underpinnings.

How does the cell compartmentalize the products of its metabolic pathways and regulate local levels?

What is the extent and timing of changes in metabolite levels during homeostasis, pathology, and interventions?

How do metabolic pathways coordinate to regulate chromatin structure?
